Our team of termite experts at Wayne’s Environmental Services, recommends the
following tips for protecting your home against termites:
- Store firewood away from your home.
- Keep gutters free of leaves and other debris. Downspouts must drain freely and away from your home.
- Because termites need only the width of a piece of paper to access your home, make sure all entry points, like cracks in foundations or utility openings, are sealed. You should also caulk windows and doors.
- Monitor areas of your home that are chronically damp or where wood comes in contact with the structure; Make sure any exterior wooden finishes are at least four inches from the ground.
- Address faulty or leaky plumbing immediately.
- Keep watch for bubbling paint, crumbling dry wood and tiny holes in walls
- Trim your shrubs and trees to ensure that they are maintained from touching your home.
- Watch for swarming termites, discarded wings and mub tubes over exposed surfaces and around window seals.
